Christmas is a magical time all over the world, but it is especially wonderful when celebrated on Hilton Head Island. The Lowcountry offers a magical holiday experience, with an abundance of holiday activities, delicious food, and crisp, cool weather. While winter is considered the "off season" for traveling in Hilton Head, it is one of the best times to come and experience the captivating charm of the island. Here are just a few of our favorite activities to enjoy during Christmas on Hilton Head.
Holiday Fun in Harbour Town for the Kids
For kids, Holiday Fun in Harbour Town is the place to be during the Holidays. From December 26th to the 28th at 5:30 pm, gather around the Liberty Oak to watch classic holiday movies, roast marshmallows and enjoy train rides, games and activities.
Holiday movies and marshmallow roasting start at 6pm. Participation is complimentary with the donation of a canned food item for the Deep Well Project; and train rides are just $5 per passenger.
Winter Wonderland Festival for the Family
If you’re looking for an activity that everyone in your family can enjoy, Shelter Cove Towne Center’s Winter Wonderland Festival is a can’t miss! Mark your calendars for Friday, December 7th, at 4 pm to go on some hayrides, play some carnival games, visit some animals at the petting zoo, watch a parade, and even meet Santa and Mrs. Claus!
There are also plenty of local boutiques to do some holiday shopping and restaurants to grab a bite and some drinks. This event is free, with donations appreciated, but concessions, trampoline bungee, and rock wall are all sold separately.
Holiday Light Displays Throughout Town
Lastly, one of our absolute favorite and FREE activities to do during the Holiday months is to explore all of Hilton Head’s wonderful light displays located throughout the island.
Harbour Town Lights
From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. every night until the New Year, you can head over to Harbour Town and stroll along the Harbour to enjoy a light display and take in the beauty of the giant Christmas tree.
Shelter Cove Towne Center Lights
For a mid-island light display, visit Shelter Cove Towne Centre. Park your car and stroll through the Holiday light display and enjoy all of the storefront holiday windows located on the main street.
Fire & Rescue Station Lights
Finally, the Hilton Head Fire and Rescue Station #3 boasts a dazzling light display that shines for the duration of the holiday season. Courtesy of the firefighters, this display is a local favorite, so make sure to drive through with your family!
